We're not "lion"! New adventures are waiting for you in the Mason media center. READING and LEARNING is our main focus! Through storytimes, booktalks and exploration of quality books, children are encouraged to find their old favorite stories and discover new ones. Research is taught, practiced, and displayed to open new doors and learn about the past. Gwinnett County provides access to quality research and knowledge databases to foster technology use. Our mission is to inspire the reader in everyone while providing the tools needed to succeed in a technological world.
Information
The Mason Media Center has a variety of resources for students. It is open for students from 8:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. each school day. We have books available for checkout and reference materials, magazines, and software for use in the Media Center.
Books may be checked out for a two-week period, however, they may be returned before the two weeks and more materials checked out. Students in Kindergarten may check out one book at a time; students in grades 1-5 may check out 2 books at a time. If a student has a book overdue, he or she may not check out another until the overdue item is returned or paid for.
There are no fines for overdue books, however, there is a fee for lost or damaged materials. These fees are set by the district: $15 for hardback books and $5 for paperback books (designated by PBK in the call number). Fees may be paid by cash or check brought in to the media center OR may be paid on MyPaymentsPlus.com. To use the MyPaymentsPlus.com site, please let Ms. Scott know first.
Mason Elementary students are respectful, responsible, and ready. Students are expected to use extreme care when borrowing books from the library. It is STRONGLY recommended that students use caution when putting water bottles and library books in the same book bag. Other book care reminders include: use clean hands when handling/reading the book, no writing or coloring in the book, do not eat or drink while reading, and do not take the book outside. We STRONGLY recommend that books are put back into backpacks or stored in the same place each night to reduce the chance of losing or damaging books.

Carly Chestnut
School Librarian
Mrs. Chestnut is excited to begin her new adventure as the School Librarian after teaching for 10 years. A proud graduate of Peachtree Ridge High School, she’s thrilled to return to her roots as a Lion. Originally from the Duluth area, she has a deep connection to the community.
Her favorite part of being a librarian is reading stories to students, but equally rewarding is helping them discover books that spark their excitement and imagination. Outside of school, Mrs. Chestnut enjoys spending quality time with her husband and son. Together, they love exploring local coffee shops and relaxing on the lake.
Mina Menon
Media Clerk
Mrs. Menon has been a valued member of the Mason community for over 11 years, bringing her passion and dedication to a variety of roles. For the past five years, she has served as a substitute teacher, while previously working as a paraprofessional. Throughout her time at Mason, she has developed a deep appreciation for the library setting, where she has enjoyed helping students of all ages discover the books they’re looking for. There’s a special joy she feels when she finds that perfect book for a student.
Outside the classroom, Mrs. Menon is a passionate advocate for wellness, with a particular love for yoga and outdoor activities. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family, embracing a lifestyle that fosters balance and connection.
